Manifesting with the Capricorn New Moon + Ritual

Happy New Moon one and all! Can you believe we’ve officially made it through 2017 and into 2018? We’re over halfway done with the first month of the year! While January tends to be an emotional month of cycles ending and beginning, this January is especially auspicious. Not only did we start the year with a full Supermoon on January 1st, but we are ending the month in the same way with a Blue Moon; a second full supermoon on January 31st. Supermoons are bigger and brighter than normal full moons, and occur when the new or full moon is closest to the earth during its orbit. Having this intensified energy at the beginning and end of the first month of the year works like jet fuel that we can use to propel us into the rest of 2018. And we have the perfect opportunity to focus on what we want to manifest this year with the new moon in Capricorn on January 16th.

New Moons are a time to plant seeds and get clear about what we want to grow, and this month we have a cosmic reverse Oreo situation going on: two supermoons sandwiching a new moon, intensifying the energy of manifestation and growth. What would your best 2018 look like? What steps do you need to make that happen, and how can you use the energy of the universe to support you in this mission?

Capricorn is the sign of the goat, an earth sign that’s all about stability, grounding, expansion and getting to the finish line. Instead of making the journey to their final destination full of flourishes and shortcuts, Capricorns find the easiest way to get from point a to b and they follow it. They’re determined, resilient, adaptable and dependable. Capricorn energy is the sort of long term energy that we need to capture to make sure we use the intense energy of the month throughout the rest of this year.

Take time on the day of the new moon, or the day before or after, to think about what it is you’re trying to manifest. What do you hope to accomplish this month? The next six months? The next year? We have a special opportunity to really go big with what we hope to get done, thanks to the power of January’s double full moons. Since Capricorn is an earth sign, themes around home, work, abundance, prosperity and nature are all prominent. Ask yourself what you need to feel grounded, supported, taken care of and provided for? Do you need to ask for help? Do you need to make more time for yourself? Do you need to find a new job that nourishes your mind and spirit?

If you wish, you can do the following manifestation ritual to help you nail down what you’re looking for this year. Do this on the new moon, or the day before or after.

You will need:

  • A white candle (a chime candle would work especially well)
  • A needle, toothpick or pin (to inscribe the candle)
  • A pen and paper

  • Crystals like clear quartz, Citrine or Moonstone
  • Herbs for what you’re manifesting like mint for wealth, rose for love and eucalyptus for health
  • Oils for what you’re manifesting like patchouli for wealth, jasmine for love, cypress for health

  1. Ground and center

Before you begin this ritual make sure that you won’t be interrupted. Let any partners or roommates know that you’ll be in ceremony, turn off your phone, make sure your pets are taken care of, put on any music you like and light any candles or incense. Once your space is set up, figure out where you’ll be lighting your candle and performing the spell. You can use an altar if you have one, a nightstand, the top of a dresser, a desk or table. Once you have your supplies set up, including any crystals you want to place in the area, find a comfortable seat. Start to breathe, feeling your connection with the earth beneath you. As you feel her support you can imagine the base of your tailbone moving into the earth like a golden cord or tree roots. The warm energy from the earth moves up your spine through the crown of your head and back down into the earth forming a circle. Savor this connection.

  1. Cast a circle if it’s in your practice

If you have a spiritual practice that includes casting a circle before a spell or ritual, now is the time to do so. If not, you can imagine a white, golden light growing from your heart, bigger and bigger until it forms a sphere of protective energy around you. This extends above your head and below your feet and should be around 6 feet in diameter. This is your circle, a meeting point between worlds that will keep any unwanted energy out and all the energy you raise during this spell in.

  1. Time to manifest

Reconnect to your breath, feeling where you may have any tension. Breathe into this. Then, start to think about what it is you’re trying to manifest. Try to be specific with what you want, like asking for a specific amount of money or a trip to a specific place. Write out your statement on your paper, beginning with “I call in” or “I receive.” Then write a sentence or few words of what you want to recieve on your candle. Using the toothpick, needle or pin, write this from the bottom to the top of your candle as you continue to breathe. If you’re using oils, rub oil from the top to the middle of the candle, and then the bottom to the middle of the candle. Place the herbs on the candle in this same way.

  1. Light the candle and call it in

Before you light your candle, take a second to feel into what you’re calling in. Imagine receiving it; what would that be like? How would you react? Envision this and then light your candle. Ask any angels, guides, deities, faeries or masters you work with to hear you, and ask them for their compassion. Read the intention you wrote down in the previous step to your candle and then say “and so it is.”  Stay here as long as you need. You want to let the candle burn all the way down. If you have to, put it in your sink

  1. Close the circle, and ground your energy

When you’re done with the candle spell, it’s time to close the circle. You can imagine the golden orb around you growing smaller and smaller, finding its way back into your heart, down your spine and into the earth. Breathe into this and then imagine the golden corn or tree roots moving back up your spine into your heart. Press your forehead into the earth like child’s pose and breathe into this, imagining any excess energy returning to the earth.

After your ritual, eat something sweet, drink some water and do something for yourself. Take a salt bath or shower, and enjoy the rest of your day!

Once the candle is burned all the way down, you can dispose of any remaining wax at an intersection or crossroads.

Adapt this spell to what fits your practice and enjoy !
