Full Moon in Virgo
Posted on February 28 2018
March is a very special month as we will be blessed with not one, but TWO full moons! Each moon phase brings with it a special kind of magick that we can use to help propel us closer towards our goals and dreams. The full moon stage, as my good friend Gaby Herstik says, serves as the “energetic climax of each month.” Luckily, we get two energetic climaxes this month! Which only means that this is an extra special time when our intuition will be on HIGH alert. And it only makes sense as we are also in the psychic sign of Pisces.
The first full moon of the month graces us with her presence on March 1st in this Goddess’s sign of Virgo. Virgo is known as the “virgin” of the zodiac and is ruled by the planet Mercury (the planet of communication). Virgos get a reputation for being highly analytical, detail oriented (bordering on perfectionism), self-sufficient, and seemingly always in control. But underneath this surface, Virgos are actually sensitive lovers and healers at heart. Known as the most feminine sign of the zodiac, Virgo is also associated with healing, nurturing, purity, divine femininity, Mother Earth, and service to humankind. A Virgo’s purpose is to teach purification through attention to detail and to “be an expression of Divine Love through one’s vocation or dharma.”
The blending of Virgo and Pisces energies coming together (they are opposites on the zodiac wheel, helping to bring balance to one another) asks us to ground ourselves with Mother Earth and not be afraid to feel deeply into our emotions too. There are major energetic shifts coming our way with this full moon, especially with the moon in opposition to Neptune (the planet of fantasy). An opposition in astrology is a challenging aspect that occurs when the planets are on opposite sides of the celestial sphere. The push pull effect of an opposition can leave us feeling an inner tug-of-war between our thoughts and emotions (the head vs heart). Your subconscious is likely to be very active right now, which can lead to some very interesting dreams. Pay special attention to what shows up in your dreams during this time, as dreams act as a safe space for our subconscious to play out and for spirit to communicate with us.
Interestingly, the moon will be sitting at the 11th degree of Virgo. The number 11 is a master number, meaning that it carries a higher vibration and an undeniable intensity to it. Eleven is also the most spiritual number, the number of the psychic and an awakening code in numerology. Did I mention that we are also in a Universal Year 11? While things may feel extra intense, remember that this number is here to break down the ego (and the egoic structures in our society) and to help build anew in the likeness of love. What are your spiritual practices right now and how are you showing up from your higher self on a regular basis? The number 11 is asking us to step into our divine and mystical gifts, while coming from a place of openness and love.
So what do we do with all of this swirling energy of water (emotions) and earth (physical)? Lean into it, don’t fight it. Surrender to whatever is coming up for you and try to be the observer of your thoughts and emotions. Use this potent energy to release what is no longer serving your highest good. An exercise I like to do on the full moon is to write out what I want to release on a piece of paper and burn it. Then, on another piece of paper, I write out what I am calling in and what I want to see more of in my life. Don’t forget to also express gratitude for everything that has manifested on your journey over this past moon cycle (January 31st- March 1st). Gratitude transmutes all negativity and helps to cement your intentions.
