Slowing Down This Holiday Season with Natalie Miles
Posted on December 11 2018
We’re approaching the holidays and it can be a time of year when we feel stressed and run down as there’s so much to do. We can feel pulled in lots of directions and feel obligated to make sure we “fit it all in”. Spending time with family and loved ones, seeing friends, finishing work before vacation, parties, gift shopping, and the list goes on. This can be a difficult time for many of us, as our emotions can run high and our buttons can be pushed. We can feel depressed, anxious and feel pressured to be “happy,” even when it’s not how we truly feel inside.
Although we’re feeling this holiday anticipation, energetically right now we’re being asked to slow down. To rest. To give ourselves permission to just be. To let go of all expectations and trust that whatever is meant to happen in 2019 will happen. It will not pass us. This last year was a big year, with many of us experiencing life’s overhaul. It’s been a year of growth and development but we’ve had to let go of a lot as well. For many, it’s felt like the rug has been pulled out from underneath us. But this is all part of the learning so that we can step into our power, occupy our authentic heart space and get clear on how we want to show up in the world.
For you to be ready for the year ahead it’s important to acknowledge your need to go inwards. By allowing yourself to have downtime, you are creating greater clarity and freedom for yourself. There can be guilt that sets in when we feel we are not doing enough. It can show up as a fear that we’re going to miss something, that we must be around other people all the time or that there is simply too much to do and we don’t have time for a break. Some of you reading this are going to think…’Really? When do I have time for me?’
It doesn’t have to be a lot. It can be as simple as taking a few hours to do something you love just for you. Or trusting and allowing when you don’t feel like going to a social get together and you’re craving alone time. Cancel and don’t feel guilty! Another idea is to take a social media pause and have a few days where you don’t feel called to post or look at other people’s feeds/stories. Journaling over this time will also give you clarity and the space to reflect. Here are some journaling points to use as we approach the end of the year:
- What has 2018 taught you about yourself?
- What was the most difficult part of 2018?
- What was the best part of 2018?
- What are you finally letting go of in 2018?
- What are you taking into 2019?
- How can I be the best version of myself in 2019?
Trust in the magic by shifting your energy from the exterior to the interior this holiday season. Give yourself permission. You are going to feel transformed, rested and recharged, ready to take on 2019 with a bang in the New Year!
